The aim of the work. To study the diagnostic macroscopic and microscopic features of pumpkin seeds for the development of appropriate sections of the national monograph "Pumpkin Seed".
Materials and Methods. The object of the research was 7 samples of pumpkin seeds collected in different regions of the Kharkiv region. Macroscopic features were studied with the naked eye and with a loupe (an increase of x 10), a microscopic examination was carried out using the binocular microscope BM-51-2 and microscope "Biolam LOMO".
Results and Discussion. The content of information about the selected research object in pharmacopoeias (DF XI, GF RB, BHP, DAB 10) and other scientific sources has been analyzed. It was revealed that the section "Macroscopy" includes: a description of the morphological, qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the seeds; characteristics of the seed coat; the monograph of the British Herbal Pharmacopeia accents that the ripe pumpkin seed does not have endosperm; gives a description of the structure of the corcule. The analysis of the section "Microscopy" indicates that all the pharmacopoeias almost uniformly describe the characteristic features of the structure of the tissues of the herbal drug under investigation in the transverse section of the seed.
Experimentally important diagnostic macroscopic characteristics of 7 series of pumpkin seed: coloring, shape, seed sizes, the surface of seeds, the structure of the seed coat, corcule are investigated.
Experimentally important for standardization diagnostic microscopic characteristics of 7 series of pumpkin seeds are investigated. In the transverse section of the ripe pumpkin seed, diagnostic features are: tissues of seed coat, an aleuronic layer and cotyledons. The compliance of the investigated herbal drugs with the requirements of the indicated pharmacopoeias is determined.
Conclusions. On the basis of the work, the draft sections "Identification A" and "Identification B" of the national monograph "Pumpkin Seed" have been developed.References
