Abstract

The aim of the work: to analyze the occurrence rates and enhance the efficacy of treating patients with thyroid cancer by refining its diagnostic methods and surgical strategies, to improve the prevention of postoperative complications.

Materials and Methods. A combination of conventional and special research methods were used: anamnesis, evaluating prior treatment, conducting physical examinations, performing thyroid gland ultrasound, fine-needle aspiration puncture biopsy (FNA) with cytological analysis of punctate samples, assessing thyroid profile hormones in blood serum (TSH, free T4, thyroglobulin (TG), calcitonin (CT)), and histological examination of surgical specimens (both express and final pathohistological).

Results and Discussion. The article presents data on the occurrence of thyroid cancer among the population of Ukraine, a discussion of modern approaches aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of these individuals, and provides information about the management of such patients at the Kyiv City Clinical Endocrinological Center. Generally, the diagnosis of thyroid cancer is based on the results of a comprehensive evaluation of clinical examination data, thyroid ultrasonography, and cytological examination of material taken by fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNA).In recent years, there has been a trend towards an increase in the incidence of thyroid cancer among patients receiving treatment at the clinic. This is due to the improvement of diagnostic methods (newest ultrasound devices and high-frequency sensors), an increase in preventive screenings and compliance with general practitioners.Ultrasound examinations of the thyroid gland and fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy with cytological analysis are indispensable and essential procedures for evaluating focal formations of the thyroid gland, as the most accurate methods of diagnosis at the preoperative assessment.
