Abstract

The aim of the work: to investigate morphological and morphometric changes in the structural reorganization of the colon in patients with diverticular disease.

Materials and Methods. In accordance with the task, we investigated morphological changes in the structure of the large intestine in diverticular disease, using pathohistological preparations of 17 patients who were treated at the Clinical Highly Specialized Surgical Center with Minimally Invasive Technologies at the Municipal Non-Conmercial EnterpriseVinnytsia Regional Clinical Hospital named after M. I. Pyrohov” of the Vinnytsia Regional Council.

Results and  Discussion. According to our observations, diverticula were usually located in 2–4 parallel rows. Macroscopically, in the colon with diverticula, the thickening of the muscle layer, the shortening of the tenia, which leads to the convergence of the folds according to the “accordion” type, is revealed. However, histologically, there are no signs of true hypertrophy of the muscular membrane, but its dystrophic-degenerative changes, defibrillation are determined. Electron microscopy studies have confirmed that the wall of the colon in diverticulosis contains structurally normal muscle cells, but contains twice as much elastin, located between the muscle cells in the tenia, which is in a shortened form and probably causes the shortening of the tenia and, as a result, the convergence of the circular muscles.
