Abstract. The article highlights the features of teaching surgical and therapeutic disciplines from the point of view of a practically-oriented approach. and its adaptation to the challenges facing the modern medical field. The purpose of teaching these academic disciplines is also highlighted. Attention is paid to features of the methods of organizing practical classes, systems for assessing the level of students’ knowledge and to the criteria that are necessary for the professional development of doctors and the formation of their professional competencies. This article reflects important components of students’ practical training when they are involved in the maintenance of specific clinical cases on the basis of therapeutic and surgical departments of the hospital, which allows them to study and consolidate their knowledge in the simulation training center. The main emphasis is on practicing practical skills as an important component in the professional training of students. A comparison of the features of teaching surgical and therapeutic disciplines is carried out in order to better form basic professional competencies and involve students in a rational choice of medical specialty. Development of opportunities for further scientific research in these areas of medicine.
