FEATURES OF TEACHING THE ELECTIVE DISCIPLINE «AMBULATORY SURGERY» TO THE STUDENTS OF THE 6TH YEAR

Abstract

Abstract. The development of education in the medical field has certain features and sets appropriate priorities for students. The need to meet modern world standards of educational programs and at the same time include a practical component is the main task of medical education in Ukraine. In order to form the professional competencies of future doctors for sixth-year students of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Foreign Students of the I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, an elective discipline «Ambulatory surgery» has been developed. The article reflects the teaching of this discipline, the purpose of which is high-quality training of students and their preparation for real challenges that arise in the modern medical field, highlights the purpose of teaching this academic discipline, the peculiarities of the methodology for organizing practical classes, the system for assessing the level of students' knowledge. The criteria that make this course important in the professional development of future doctors and their professional competencies are also formulated. The article highlights the key elements of successful teaching, in particular, involving students in practical work in relevant clinical situations on the basis of the surgical department, practicing and consolidating the acquired knowledge in the center of simulation training, conducting discussions and analysis of relevant clinical cases, actively involving students in innovative methods of diagnostics and training, in particular telemedicine. Emphasis is placed on a practically oriented approach in the professional training of students. The knowledge and skills obtained by students during the study of the elective discipline outpatient surgery contribute to the formation of basic professional competencies, involve students in a balanced choice of medical specialty, develop clinical thinking and open horizons for scientific research in this field of medicine.
