The article is devoted to lexicographic studios of the famous Ukrainian writer, translator, teacher and social-cultural figure of the first half of the nineteenth century, P. Biletsky-Nosenko, that ended with the creation of the “Dictionary of Ukrainian Language”. The focus of the study is the dictionary as a linguistic and historical-cultural phenomenon, the history of its creation, the source base and the principles of register, its role in the history of the development of Ukrainian lexicology and lexicography. The possibility of using dictionary materials for the study of the national terminology as the initial stage of domestic medical terminology and formation of the Ukrainian medical terminological fund is considered.
