Abstract

The problem of zoonosis of monkeypox in humans is considered. Historical data on the disease, the discovery of the pathogen are mentioned, the current epidemiological situation is described. The etiology of the disease, possible sources of the pathogen, ways of its transmission, and groups of people at high risk of disease are highlighted. Clinical manifestations of monkeypox in humans, differential diagnosis, in particular with smallpox, chickenpox and vesicular rickettsiosis are described. Criteria for determining cases and diagnosing monkeypox in humans according to CDC and WHO, modern methods of treatment and prevention of the disease, including specific ones, are presented. It is concluded the possibility of further epidemic complications of monkeypox in endemic and non-endemic regions.
