Abstract

The problem of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the epidemiological situation with tuberculosis is considered. An analysis of the literature showed that prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was steady progress in the fight against tuberculosis in many countries, with a 9 % reduction in morbidity in 2015–2019 and a 14 % mortality rate over the same period. Disruptions in TB services caused by the COVID-19 pandemic led to further failures. In many countries, human, financial and other resources have been reallocated from TB in response to COVID-19. Data collection and reporting systems have also been negatively affected. According to a new report, data collected from more than 200 countries showed a significant reduction in TB cases, with a 25–30 % decrease in countries with a high incidence of TB between January and June 2020 compared to the same period. 6-month period in 2019. The economic and health crises created by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as public health measures currently in place to stop the spread of the virus, may have an impact on the spread, treatment of inpatient and outpatient tuberculosis, diagnostic services and TB prevention and control programs. Changes in the situation with tuberculosis in Belarus, Poland and Ukraine are analyzed separately. It is noted that as the world comes together to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to ensure that basic health services continue to work to protect the lives of people with TB and other diseases. Health services, including national TB control programs, should be actively involved in ensuring an effective and rapid response to COVID-19, while providing support to TB services.
