Abstract

The aim of the research – to analyze a clinical case of shigellosis, complicated by encephalomyelitis in a 6-year-old child.

Description of a clinical case of shigellosis, complicated by encephalomyelitis, in a 6-year-old child has been presented. Neurological disorders manifested by left-sided hemiparesis and dysfunctions of the pelvic organs appeared on the third day of the disease. On bacteriological analysis of excretions, S. sonnei culture was isolated.

Conclusion. The clinical case illustrates difficulties in differential diagnosis of shigellosis and infectious diseases, in which clinical manifestations of damage to the nervous system are common components of pathological process.
