The article presents an analysis of the immediate and long-term results of treatment of 183 patients with adenocarcinoma of the anal canal. There was studied the histological and morphological structure of adenocarcinomas of the anal canal, the frequency and nature of postoperative complications, one-, three- and five-year survival of patients, incontinence indicators and quality of life of patients after abdominal extirpation or abdominal-anal resection of the rectum. It was proved that the sphincter-saving operations in patients with adenocarcinomas of the anal canal does not increase the risk of perioperative complications, but, instead, helps to reduce the frequency of postoperative complications and allows the patients to relieve from colostomy, which improves the quality of life of patients after surgery.
