The aim of the work: to develop an original computer-assisted method for assessing the planimetric characteristics of wounds and test it.
Materials and Methods. The original computer-assisted method to evaluate the planimetric characteristics of a wound was developed and tested. Sixteen patients with deep and superficial burns, five patients with post-traumatic wounds, and two patients with bite wounds underwent digital planimetry to determine the area, perimeter, radius, length, and width of their wounds.
Results and Discussion. The developed original computer-assisted method allowed us to determine the planimetric characteristics of a wound in a quick and reliable manner, monitor the healing process, and store the obtained information. In order to test the method, we examined patients who were treated at the City Center for Thermal Trauma and Plastic Surgery and the Department of Surgery at Saint Luke’s Hospital (First Lviv Territorial Medical Union; Lviv, Ukraine) in 2019-2022. The accuracy of the digital vulnerometry method was confirmed by comparisons with the results of planimetry using contact methods and the method of determining the wound area according to R. W. Sessions.
