Abstract

The aim of the work: to determine the features of preoperative diagnosis of bronchpulmonary carcinoid tumors.

Materials and Methods. The analysis of diagnosis of 126 patients who were diagnosed with typical and atypical lung carcinoid was carried out. The clinical manifestations, the effectiveness of radiation and imaging diagnostic methods were studied.

Results and Discussion. Typical carcinoid was diagnosed in 110 patients, atypical carcinoid in 16 patients. Central carcinoid was diagnosed in 101 patients, peripheral in 25 patients. The duration of the disease ranged from 1 month to 19 years. The main clinical manifestations were cough, shortness of breath, hemoptysis, and fever. In the majority of patients, endobronchial or peribronchial tumor growth prevailed, in 63 and 22 cases, respectively, which was accompanied by signs of impaired bronchial patency, in 17 patients an intrapulmonary round or ovoid tumor with clear contours was revealed, in 6 patients the contours were indistinct or tight. The endoscopic picture is nonspecific. Preoperative morphological verification of tumors using transbronchial biopsy was obtained in 60 patients, and using CT-guided transthoracic biopsy – in 13 cases. There were no complications after transbronchial biopsy, after CT-guided transthoracic biopsy – pneumothorax was observed in 1 patient.
