The aim of the work: to find out how the modification of TAPP-1 affects the further recovery of patients, and whether it is possible using this technique to reduce the number of complications in patients with inguinal hernias.
Materials and Methods. 54 people with bilateral inguinal hernias were operated on using the modified TAPP-1 technique. 61 men over 65 years old and 44 men up to 45 years old were operated on with three different methods. Each group of patients was observed by a doctor and came for routine check-ups every 3 months for 1.5 years.
Results and Discussion. The occurrence of complications in all three groups is within the average statistical range. In group 1 (see Table 1), there was a tendency towards a decrease in the number of patients with postoperative complications in comparison with groups 2 and 3 (see Tables 2 and 3). After the modified TAPP-1 operation, the number of recurrences of hernias on both sides significantly decreased and amounted to only 0.54, which is generally lower than the national average. With correct suturing of the peritoneum and minimal fixation of the mesh, the prognosis for recovery is significantly improved. And when using large meshes, femoral hernias are prevented. Regardless of the method of treating inguinal hernias, there is always a risk of recurrence and postoperative pain. With the help of modified original methods of treating inguinal hernias, it is possible to reduce the number of patients with unwanted complications. The modified TAPP-1 operation is suitable for the treatment of bilateral hernias in people of different ages and genders. No regularities were found between the number of mesh attachment points and the frequency of recurrence.
