Focus and Scope

Hospital surgery - Ukrainian scientific journal published quarterly. The journal publishes articles that cover various fields of surgery, which have a scientific and practical for surgeons of all specialties. The journal publishes original articles, reviews, discussions to help practitioners and researchers involved in the surgery. Articles reflect best practices and research results concerning the surgical diseases and their treatment. An important part of editorial policy is to publish lectures by leading experts. In addition, the journal publishes materials on the history of medicine, brief discussion of clinical cases, reports of congresses and conferences reviews.

Peer Review Process

 " Hospital Surgery.Journal named after L. Ya. Kovalchuk" is a peer-reviewed journal, so the articles will be "blindly" reviewed by recognized experts in the field of manuscripts. Authors of manuscripts are not able to contact the reviewers who perform the review process of their manuscripts. All correspondence related to the review of each manuscript is confidential. All reviewers must disclose potential conflicts of interest related to the article's topic or authors.

  The editor-in-chief considers the reviewers' proposals and makes the appropriate decision: send the article to print or return it to the author with a proposal to take into account the reviewer's recommendations and finalize it.

" Hospital Surgery.Journal named after L. Ya. Kovalchuk" uses the guiding principles of scientific peer review recommended by the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME):

  • the main "strengths" and "weaknesses" of the manuscript (including study design, methodology, reporting of results and data interpretation);
  • correct assessment of data quality, including recognition of their limitations;
  • provide useful suggestions for improving the manuscript, if appropriate;
  • comments on any ethical issues raised by the research or any possible evidence of scientific misconduct (eg possible duplicates, plagiarism, etc.). If reviewers suspect misconduct, they are asked to notify the editor;

provide appropriate context and perspective for the editor's decision to accept, reject, or revise/resubmit the manuscript.

Reviewers treat each manuscript as confidential. Reviewers are prohibited from storing, copying, or sharing manuscripts. Reviewers and editors are prohibited from using any personal or professional data, arguments or interpretations (except those directly involved in its peer review).

Each article is checked for plagiarism using the Unicheck.    program in order to assess academic integrity.

Open Access Policy

The journal " Hospital Surgery.Journal named after L. Ya. Kovalchuk" practices a policy of immediate open access to all published content, supporting the principles of free dissemination of scientific information in the scientific space and global exchange of knowledge for general social progress and joint scientific achievements.

Ethics policy

Authors/co-authors should refer to the guidelines published by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.

All participants in the peer review and publishing process must take into account their conflict of interest in the process of reviewing the work and its publication and identify all discrepancies that could be considered as potential conflicts of interest.

Previously published material/manuscript is absolutely ineligible for publication in the International Journal of Medicine and Medical Research.

Bioethics

The cover letter (submission and formatting of articles) should include information about the contribution of each person listed as an author/co-author of the article. To avoid ambiguity of entered data, the corresponding author must follow the instructions published by the International Committee of Editors of Medical Journals in the Recommendations for Conducting, Reporting, Editing and Publishing Scientific Works in Medical Journals.

All procedures that describe experiments using laboratory animals, any work using materials obtained from humans - either donors and/or patients - must be consistent with the norms of bioethics.

Reports based on human or animal studies should be included in the Methods section, along with a statement that the study protocol has been approved by an ethics committee. The name of the committee and the number of the decision must be included in the application.

Manuscripts must comply with ICMJE guidelines for the protection of research participants.

Scientific incompatibilities in any form are not acceptable in the International Journal of Medicine and Medical Research. Accidentally unpublished/published documents may constitute violations of professional ethics, such as multiple use, fictitious claims of authorship, intellectual property rights violations, plagiarism, fraudulent use of data, etc. Such a paper in question (either a manuscript accepted for publication or a published work prior to detection of violations) will be rejected by the International Journal of Medicine and Medical Research and all authors/co-authors will be notified of this after supporting the claim with evidence.

Anti-plagiarism policy

The International Journal of Medicine and Medical Research checks all manuscripts submitted to the journal for plagiarism by independent experts and special software. We protect the rights of authors/co-authors and investigate claims of plagiarism or misuse of published articles. The authors are responsible for the reliability of the information provided in the articles, the accuracy of names, surnames and citations. Authors are responsible for the materials they present if plagiarism is detected in them. Likewise, we protect the journal's reputation against abuse of office. Thus, the journal reserves the right to reject the article for plagiarism without further explanation and to take appropriate legal measures.
