The aim of the work. To research the acute toxicity of pessaries with the conditional name “Lactovagin” on the laboratory animals.
Materials and Methods. The object of the study: pessaries “Lactovagin” containing the substance Lactobacillus IMB B-7280 with probiotic activity, and can be used for the treatment and prevention of dysbiotic disorders in women. The research of acute toxicity was conducted on female BALB/c line mice with a single administration of the developed drug by two routes of administration: intravaginal and intragastric. Statistical analysis of the results was performed with MedStat v.5.2 statistic software package. Differences in indicators were considered statistically significant at p<0.05.
Results and Discussion. The main criteria for determining the toxic effect of the drug were the death of animals, manifestations of intoxication, a decrease in the individual and group weight of animals compared to the initial weight. These indicators were not observed during this experiment. Pathological behavioral and physiological signs were not detected during daily examinations of animals after a single administration of pessaries “Lactovagin”. The increase in individual and group weight of mice was physiological at the level of 3.5–4.1 % for the experimental groups, 2.8 % for the intact control group. At the end of the experiment, the animals were euthanized for the pathomorphological studies, during which pathological changes in internal organs and brain were not observed. Statistically significant differences were not found between the weight coefficients of internal organs of female mice for different groups.
Conclusions. The data obtained after the experiment: the absence of the lethality of mice, the positive dynamics of the increase in individual and group body weight of laboratory animals, the absence of signs of pathology during pathomorphological studies can indicate that pessaries “Lactovagin” containing the substance Lactobacillus casei IMB B-7280 with probiotic activity, are relatively safe and harmless.
