Abstract

Abstract. In the article, the authors share their experience and achievements in teaching academic integrity and bioethics in medical and scientific activities at the Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, which integrates modern requirements for the quality of medical education regarding the acquisition of competencies in compliance with moral and ethical standards, professional and academic integrity, responsibility for the quality of the acquired special professional knowledge and the reliability of the obtained results of scientific research in the field of healthcare. Optimization of the educational process by implementing new methods of mastering the material and controlling knowledge involves the use of modern teaching methods, such as interactive involvement in discussions with the definition of positions and their defense by the parties in debates, the open microphone method, the use of Web search and artificial intelligence technologies, case methods based on the experience of American and European clinicians and scientists and offering examples of their solutions, which highlight ethical dilemmas in ways to overcome problematic circumstances while adhering to the norms of bioethics and academic integrity. To help students master professional and ethical standards in science and education in the problematic field of disciplines, modern teaching methods are used to study the permissibility and limitations of the influence of modern medical science on issues related to the beginning and end of human life, respect for a healthy lifestyle, bioethical problems of socially dangerous infections, moral and ethical principles of care for chronically ill people and people with disabilities, ethical problems of medical use of psychotropic drugs, bioethical aspects of combating drug addiction, alcoholism and smoking, ethical principles of providing medical care to cancer patients, bioethical problems of pain, suffering, rehabilitation, the range of threats and risks in the field of modern biomedical sciences, the dilemma of dual use of scientific achievements, the responsibility of scientists in the biomedical field, as well as the teaching of the principles of academic integrity in education and science in medicine.
