Abstract

Abstract. The article identifies the main stages of the genesis of the system of values of future doctors in Ukraine in the second half of the 20th – early 21st centuries, which contributes to understanding the peculiarities of the formation of the axiological foundations of higher medical education in the dynamics of historical challenges. Two periods of the formation of the value system of future doctors in Ukraine are characterized: the soviet period (1950–1991), which reflected the development of higher medical education within the geopolitical borders of the Ukrainian SSR, and the national-state period (1991–2020s), which corresponds to transformational educational processes in the conditions of the revival and formation of an independent state of Ukraine. Within the Soviet period, subperiods are distinguished: «institutional-ideological» (1950s – early 1960s), «public-educational» (1960s – early 1970s), and «scientific-research» (1970s – 1980s). One of the trends of the Soviet period was the enlightenment activities of representatives of the medical intelligentsia (teachers of medical institutes, doctors, participants in the «sixties» movement), who articulated democratic, humanistic, and national values. Within the national-state period, the following subperiods have been identified: «legislative-bioethical» (1991–2009), when the democratic principles of the functioning of the healthcare sector in Ukraine were legally consolidated, an academic discipline bioethics (interdisciplinary field of scientific knowledge, which aimed at the formation of bioethical values) was introduced in medical higher education institutions; «conceptual» (2009–2014), associated with the approval of the axiological foundations of the medical profession in the Code of Ethics of a Doctor; the development of various bioethical concepts; «global-transformational» (2014–2022), marked by the search for ways to improve the value system of future doctors in accordance with the new conditions of the educational process and global challenges (war, pandemic etc.).
