Abstract

Modern medical education is constantly improving, placing high demands on students regarding the depth and practicality of their knowledge. In this context, the study of elective disciplines becomes a key stage in the formation of the competencies of future doctors. Students of the 6th year of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University have a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge and skills in the field of hematology and transfusiology by studying the elective discipline “Actual issues of hematology and transfusiology”.

The article highlights the peculiarities of teaching this discipline aimed at high-quality preparation of students for the challenges posed by modern medical trends. The purpose of teaching the academic discipline, the method of organizing practical classes, the system of assessing the level of students' knowledge are explained, and the key aspects that make this course important for the further professional development of future doctors are identified.

The emphasis is placed on a competency-oriented approach to students’ training, which contributes to the competitiveness and the modernization of the content of higher medical education and complements a number of educational innovations. The key elements of successful teaching are specified, such as the use of innovative teaching methods, practical simulations, active involvement of students in discussions and analysis of clinical scenarios, work in the university educational and practical centers, effective communication support between a teacher and students.

The knowledge and skills acquired by students during the study of the elective discipline “Actual issues of hematology and transfusiology” can contribute to the formation of basic professional competencies, clinical type of thinking and become the basis for a deliberate choice of future medical specialty or further scientific research in this field of medicine.
