The full-scale military invasion and regular massive shelling of the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine by the russian federation have become a significant challenge of our time. The number of people who, after stabilization and treatment, need further comprehensive rehabilitation is increasing exponentially, so returning the victims to a full, active life is an urgent problem today. Given the challenges of today, most people will need assistive devices throughout their lives.
The purpose of the study: to analyze curricula and teaching materials on the peculiarities of training students according to the four-step model of providing assistive devices.
The bibliosystematic and analytical methods were applied in the electronic databases Science Direct, PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar, Physiopedia, Momentum Wheels for Humanity, Rehabprime and TAP. The analysis of work programs and educational materials on the peculiarities of training applicants according to the four-step model of providing aids at the Department of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physical Education of the Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine was performed.
Every person who needs assistive devices has unique needs. The World Health Organization has described in detail four key steps in providing assistive devices. Following these steps will help ensure that the user is safe and gets the most out of their device. The analysis of work programs and educational materials on the features of the four-step model of providing assistive devices in the study of disciplines at the Department of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physical Education of the Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine indicated that third-year students have the opportunity to study this model of providing assistive devices when studying the topics of the disciplines “Biomechanics and Clinical Kinesiology” and “Clinical rehabilitation management of musculoskeletal disorders”. As a result of studying the disciplines “Biomechanics and Clinical Kinesiology”, the topic “Training in the safe and effective provision of auxiliary aids in accordance with the TAP program” and “Clinical rehabilitation management of musculoskeletal disorders” of section 2 “Organization of rehabilitation stages in fractures of various localization”, higher education students should learn to safely and effectively use equipment for rehabilitation activities, monitoring of the patientʼs vital signs, auxiliary aids, and other equipment. When studying the above topics, the faculty of the department teaches future physical therapistsʼ assistants that they must act in accordance with regulatory requirements and standards of professional ethics, must choose the best forms, methods and techniques that would ensure respectful attitude towards the patient/client, their safety/protection, comfort and privacy. As a result of studying the disciplines, a variety of evidence-based platforms are used in practical classes: Physiopedia; Momentum Wheels for Humanity; Rehabprime; and information on rehabilitation aids on the website of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. According to the evidence-based literature and the Internet platforms Physiopedia, Gate-tap, Momentum Wheels for Humanity, Rehabprime, four steps are described that are necessary to provide assistive devices. In practical classes, when studying topics in the above disciplines, students have the opportunity to study each step of providing assistive devices: selection, adjustment, training and further support. In the process of training specialists in physical therapy, each applicant must undergo theoretical and practical training while studying at the University. The two components of training are necessary to master the amount of theoretical knowledge and master practical skills. The study of the four-step model of providing auxiliary aids in practical classes is necessary for the practical activities of future physical therapistsʼ assistants.
According to the results of the work, it was found that in the educational process of higher education applicants at the Department of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physical Education, the four-step model of providing aids is studied in detail. Higher education students studying in the specialty 227 “Physical Therapy, Ergotherapy” study and practically apply in practice with each other each step of providing assistive devices: selection, adjustment, training and further support.
