VALUES OF UKRAINIAN YOUTH IN THE WARTIME: ON THE ISSUE OF CIVIC EDUCATION OF FUTURE DOCTORS

Abstract

The article presents the results of content analysis of creative works of second-year students of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, who had been describing the values of Ukrainian youth in the wartime. It was found that students prefer family, national values as well as peace, faith, freedom, dignity, unity, charity as fundamental values, which are especially relevant in contemporary war realities. Almost all authors of the essay stated national unity as the most important value and prerequisite for victory in the war against the enemy.  Students noted that Ukrainian heroic history, spiritual ethno genetic heritage are the fundamental values that maintain Ukrainians in the war. The presented scientific results testify to the value attitude of Ukrainian youth to such social / political / spiritual institutions as the state, nation, family, language, faith, history, culture. Students have confirmed their understanding of the importance of existence of the Ukrainian state, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, democratic moral and national foundations of development of the Ukrainian society, which are the key to happy life of the Ukrainians on their God-given land.

The necessity to support and raise the level of civic consciousness of modern students, to strengthen their beliefs about the value priorities of Ukrainian citizens during the war and the postwar period has been substantiated. In this context, the humanitarian training of future medical professionals is important, in particular, in classes on the history of Ukraine and Ukrainian culture. The content of these disciplines should be supplemented by a “war component”, focusing on scientific issues that reveal the historical and mental differences (opposites) between Ukraine and russia, as well as the value of language, faith, history in the internal strengthening of Ukrainian state.
