Abstract

The article is dedicated to the formation of the list and content of elective disciplines (variable part of the curriculum) guaranteed by the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education’’. This is in line with the person-centered teaching principles during which students are actively involved in the formation of their educational trajectory.

The article presents an analysis of some aspects and principles of formation of subject competence in functional diagnostics. First of all, the choice of elective cycles topics that were offered to students for study was influenced by availability of appropriate diagnostic equipment for examinations and professionalism of specialists. But, in order to qualitatively meet the needs of future doctors in obtaining professional competencies we carried out anonymous poll of the sixth year students. The questionnaire was filled out upon completion of the study of the legislation discipline “Functional Diagnostics in Internal Medicine”. This questionnaire was developed by the teachers of the department. It included list functional diagnostics methods, the mastery of which is possible at our department and some questions. In particular, we were interested in future specialization of final years’ students, their priority in the study of the proposed selective disciplines and proposals for the methodology and the periods of its study.

Considering the responses of the poll of, for students of the fifth year of study, three elective disciplines were proposed: “ECG in Emergency Cardiology”, “Clinical Electroencephalography” and “Methods of Auditory Function Study” which they can master during the next academic year. The result of the choice of disciplines turned out to be quite logical and predictable.

So, in order to form a qualitative expansion or supplement of professional profile competencies, for high quality teaching of elective discipline in addition to providing of equipment and specialists, it is mandatory to take into account the results of the poll of the students and, if necessary, other stakeholders, including external ones.
