In order to improve the quality of teaching the course of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dnipropetrovsk Medical Academy of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine special methods of motivation of students, which significantly increased the efficiency and quality of students of the Faculty of Medicine 4 and 5 years of study are used. Students gain knowledge while watching demonstrations, training videos, participate in discussions, exercises, or role-playing games that simulate specific clinical cases and practice using the lessons learned. After mastering the practical skills, students practice their use in the simulation classes according to the OSKI program, as close as possible to the real clinical conditions, under the supervision of teachers who monitor the quality of clinical skills techniques.
In order to increase students’ motivation for learning, methods such as encouraging communication between the student and the teacher. As well as in the group on the topic of the class, expressing interest in each student from the teacher’s side, openness to advice and assistance, involving students in discussing the topic, including in the work of all students in the group, especially those who feel insecure. Classes should be purposeful and conducted at a good pace, which requires a clear plan and timing. Playing exercises that modulate clinical cases should be used in the structure of the lesson. The teacher should be able to identify active students and motivate them to act as experts in solving difficult situations. This teaching technique, which does not have a clear section on the teacher and the student – a horizontal communication method used to work with adults, in which the lesson does not look like a standard lesson. But rather a transfer of knowledge from an experienced mentor to the student, allows you to establish a positive emotional contact between the teacher and students greatly increases the motivation and effectiveness of the learning process.
In order to improve the quality of education of medical students in higher educational establishments of Ukraine, it is advisable to use best practices and technologies based on modern methods of conducting the pedagogical process. Encouragement and motivation of students to study should be based on the principles of maximum disclosure of students’ creative opportunities, ability to communicate in groups, use of the gained practical skills in simulation of clinical cases and work on simulation equipment. Our experience in training medical students in the field of obstetrics and gynecology has shown a high level of satisfaction and learning of teaching material using the methods of motivation and horizontal communication between teachers and students.
