OBJECTIVE STRUCTURED CLINICAL EXAMINATION AS A MEASURE OF PRACTICAL TRAINING OF FUTURE DOCTOR

The aim of the work – to analyze the effectiveness of evaluating medical competencies through an objective, structured clinical examination.
The main body. During the exam, the student performs 12 tasks at 12 stations. The time allocated to each of them is 6 minutes, and the time between them – 1 minute. Depending on what competence is to be tested, the stations are divided into 4 main types: communicative, cognitive, manual (basic and complicated) or manipulation. However, such a division is rather arbitrary; at any station it is impossible to assess the isolated competence, since they are interpenetrating. In order to achieve high reliability and objectivity of control of students’ knowledge, a student is evaluated for the same tasks (for one group), by check-list and without the indication of personal data (by identification number). An exam is considered to be passed if the student has scored at least 7.0 points out of the12 possible.
Conclusion. Using the format of objective structured clinical exam allows not only assessing the degree of mastery of competencies, but also contributing to increase the interest of students to study and forming clinical thinking.
