PROBLEMATIC ISSUES AND SPECIFICS OF TEACHING THE ELECTIVE COURSE “SPORTS PHARMACOLOGY” FOR HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS MAJORING IN “PHYSICAL THERAPY, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY”

Abstract. The article substantiates the relevance and necessity of studying the elective course “Sports Pharmacology” by higher education students majoring in “Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy”. It analyzes the key competencies developed through this course and its significance for ensuring safe and effective rehabilitation and sports training. The main challenges associated with teaching sports pharmacology to future physical therapists are discussed. Based on the analysis of scientific and methodological literature and practical experience, the article presents a detailed overview of the features of teaching the “Sports Pharmacology” course at the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology of I. Ya. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University Ministry of Health of Ukraine (TNMU). The structure of the course is outlined, and the importance of the selected topics for the practical activities of physical therapists is justified. Special attention is given to the description and analysis of innovative teaching methods used by the department, including practice-oriented approaches, interactive technologies, and methods aimed at developing students’ clinical thinking and critical information analysis skills. The article concludes that the implementation of modern educational approaches and the adaptation of course content to the needs of future physical therapists, as practiced at TNMU, contribute to improving the quality of their professional training and preparing them for effective work in sports medicine and rehabilitation.
