Abstract

Abstract. The article presents the experience of introducing an selective discipline «Clinical Physiology of Children» at the Department of Physiology of Bogomolets National Medical University. The program of the discipline is designed as an educational component of the second year of study in accordance with the curriculum for the preparation of Master's level specialists in the field of knowledge 22 «Healthcare» in specialty 228 «Pediatrics» with the educational qualification «Master of Pediatrics» and the professional qualification «Pediatrician». The developed program and syllabus of the selective discipline «Clinical Physiology of Children» meet the standards of higher education and the curriculum for the training of Masterʼs of Medicine, based on the following structure: total hours – 90, including practical classes – 26 hours, lectures – 4 hours, and independent work – 60 hours. The form of learning achievement control is a differentiated credit test. To assess students' knowledge, a set of standardized methods was applied, including testing, solving situational problems, and completing written assignments. To ensure high-quality training of future specialists, the educational discipline was carefully planned and structured, taking into account the current needs of students who strive to master knowledge of human physiology thoroughly and simultaneously develop practical skills that are key to successful professional activity in the future. The described experience of implementing the content of the academic discipline demonstrates the paramount importance of individualizing the educational process in the context of modern medical education, emphasizing the need to improve curricula taking into account the achievements of medical science and clinical practice. Through in-depth study of the patterns of regulation of visceral systems in the childʼs body, students gain the opportunity not only to objectively assess key indicators of the functioning of the child's body but also significantly expand their understanding of the importance of physiology as an integral basis for the successful study of other fundamental and clinical medical disciplines, which contributes to the formation of holistic clinical thinking.
