Abstract

Abstract. The article presents the experience of the reference Department of Pediatrics No. 2 of the Bogomolets National Medical University regarding the development and introduction into the educational process of methodical support of the selective discipline of the BБ 5.1. “Basics of neonatology” for students of medical faculties of institutions of higher medical education of the 5th year of study at the educational and qualification level “master”, qualification “doctor”, field of knowledge 22 “Health care”, specialty 222 “Medicine” and ВБ 5.2. “Basics of neonatology” – specialty 228 “Pediatrics”. The following 10 topics are planned in the program of the optional discipline “Basics of neonatology”, which reflect the most relevant issues of neonatology.

The developed program and syllabus of the optional discipline “Basics of neonatology” meet the standards of higher education and the curriculum for training masters of medicine and masters of pediatrics and are based on the following structure: the total number of hours – 90, of which practical classes – 30 hours, independent work – 60 hours . Type of control: differential test.

When assessing students’ knowledge, we used standardized methods of control, namely: testing, work with standard medical documentation, structured written works, standardized control of practical skills according to the implementation method.

Teaching in the selective discipline “Basics of neonatology” should contribute to the expansion and deepening of the knowledge of future family doctors and pediatricians regarding the peculiarities of the course of diseases in the neonatal period, the assessment of the most common symptoms and syndromes observed in the pathology of various organs and systems in a newborn child, and the improvement of competencies regarding the provision of emergency care to newborns.
