Abstract

The article considers the expediency of lectures as a type of training based on the results of student surveys, as well as the disadvantages and advantages of traditional and interactive lectures formats. Based on a survey of students to determine their need for lectures and compare traditional and interactive lectures on the basis of: usefulness, overcoming monotony, maintaining attention and interest, a positive role in learning and motivation for self-study. The study was conducted by questioning 75 medical faculty first-year students majoring in “Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy” aged 17 to 20 years. The questions of the questionnaire were formulated by the authors of the article with the help of the researched scientific and methodical literature, which studies the problems of organizing lectures in higher educational institutions. According to the results of student surveys, 77.4 % of respondents need lectures, primarily to gain professional knowledge and prepare for practical classes. Modern forms of lecture – traditional and interactive – are of almost equal interest to about 50 % of freshmen. The interactive lecture was rated by students significantly higher than the traditional one in terms of retention of attention (64.5 % and 33.9 %, respectively) and deprivation of monotony (78.5 % vs. 19.4 %). To a lesser extent, both lecture formats differed for students in terms of improved learning and self-study. When conducting an interactive lecture, first-year students have certain problems of interaction with the lecturer – only 40.3 % positively assessed the possibility of the teacher to address them during the lesson and only 29 % are free to contact themselves when questions arise, which we associate with incomplete adaptation process to study at the university and in the new team. The results of the study showed that the lecture remains a type of study that students need, and their effectiveness can be increased by using an interactive format.
