The article analyzes the state of research on the development of foreign language education in foreign countries through the measurement of the scientific discourse of Ukrainian comparativists (late XX – early XXІ century). It is noted that the globalization trends of modern society set new requirements for foreign language education, increased the role of the personality of a pupil/student and teacher/professor as subjects of the educational process, constantly cooperating and developing, conducting educational and cultural dialogue in the following areas: knowledge, culture communications, the latest communication technologies, etc. An important role in this process is given to Ukrainian comparativists, who in the early 90’s of the XX century began to study the evidence of the development of foreign language education in the leading countries of the world and to acquaint with it scientists, educators who began to creatively use international educational achievements in the field of language education, in particular on the formation of communicative competence of schoolchildren. Back in the late 90’s of the XX century some scientists (N. Abashkina, A. Vasyliuk, K. Korsak, N. Lavrychenko, O. Lokshyna, O. Pershukova, L. Pukhovska, etc.) emphasized that in the scientific discourse abroad foreign language education is considered as a competence/result of education, therefore there is a need to pay special attention to the language training of students, means and forms of foreign language learning, to rethink the essence of communicative competence of pupils and students. A thorough study of this problem began in the early 2000s, which led to the expansion of the thematic range of scientific studies, strengthening their interdisciplinary focus. Ukrainian comparativists, researching foreign language education in foreign countries (usually by the analysis of educational systems of certain countries), emphasize the creative use of European and world experience, in particular the actualization of foreign language learning in secondary and higher education in Ukraine. Modern scholars conclude that for the applicant of Ukrainian foreign language education is important not only such indicators as knowledge of vocabulary and grammar of the language being studied, but also socio-cultural and communicative competence. Ukrainian comparative studies has serious work on the study of foreign language education in foreign countries, initiated in the 90s of the XX century. The creative achievements of the laboratory of comparative pedagogy of the Institute of Pedagogy of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine (G. Egorov, L. Volynets, O. Lokshina, B. Melnychenko, O. Pershukova, etc.) are still important for today. Modern comparativists are actively working on the formation of foreign language competence of students.
