Abstract

The education of the younger generation is evidently the future of the nation. According to Tadeusz Czacki and Hugo Kollontai instructions the curriculum and the system of education in junior forms at the Volyn Grammar School (Gymnasium)provided the learning of classics and foreign languages mainly. The curriculum was compiled in such a way that it could develop a child's memory first of all which still remains the basis for the search of knowledge-to-be.

At an advanced stage, і.е. at special courses, the studying of the subjects which required not only memory but reasoning and thinking development prevailed. Individual inclinations and abilities as well as unique talents were also developed.

The instructors and professors prepared the lectures themselves, the pupils had to write the main statements and notions down into their compendia and notebooks in the process of listening. The library was provided with a sufficient amount of literature, and the teaching staff – European professors.
