Abstract

Introduction. Today, an alarming trend is being observed regarding the reduction of the total number of secondary medical personnel in the public health care system. The doctor-nurse ratio does not meet the needs of the health care system. A decrease in the number of nursing specialists causes an increase in workload and, ultimately, leads to a decrease in the quality of work.

The aim of the study – to identify the problems of professional growth of future nursing specialists in the medical college and to substantiate the directions of their solution.

The main part. To achieve the set goal and fulfill the tasks of the research, a complex of socio-hygienic methods was used: content analysis of regulatory documents, statistical method, sociological method – a questionnaire was conducted among students of 2–4 courses studying at the base of the Mykolaiv Basic Medical College of Mykolaiv Regional Council (total 42 respondents).

Conclusions. Based on the systematization of the information obtained within the scope of the study, the main areas contributing to the professional growth and self-realization of future nursing specialists have been determined. An important area of activity of the medical organization is the creation of conditions for professional growth and self-realization of graduates. In order to ensure conditions for professional growth and self-realization of specialists with secondary medical education, heads of medical organizations need to implement a number of measures. Such measures include: creation of favorable working conditions, modern material and technical equipment of the workplace, provision of social guarantees, promotion of the formation of a positive psychological climate in the team, application of various forms of motivation of labor activity. It was established that the main areas contributing to the professional growth and self-realization of future nursing specialists are the improvement of the activities of educational organizations (medical colleges) in the field of professional orientation, the formation of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, the promotion of employment and its monitoring, and the activation of the work of medical organizations in creating conditions for professional growth and self-realization of mid-career personnel and joint activities for the development of personal and professional qualities, adaptation of young specialists and promotion of the process of becoming a mid-career. The collected and systematized opinions of respondents interviewed within the scope of the study are valuable material for formulating recommendations regarding the implementation of the idea of professional growth and self-realization of future nursing professionals in medical colleges and medical organizations.
