Abstract

Introduction. Medical college students are vulnerable to mental health problems and exhibit high levels of stress during the transition from adolescence to adulthood, as well as academic pressures that can negatively impact academic performance, social functioning, and quality of life. Nursing students pursuing advanced nursing education also experience higher levels of stress compared to medical students. The main causes of such stress are anxiety before exams, heavy didactic and clinical workload, feeling unprepared for practice, and fear of making mistakes.

The aim of the study – to analyze indicators of the psychological component of life quality for nursing students and their association with age, work experience, and academic performance.

The main part. 70 students of the Master level of higher education in specialty 223 “Nursing” were included in the study. Quality of life was assessed using the SF-36 questionnaire. Psychological component of health was evaluated on scales: psychological component (MCS), vitality (VT), social functioning (SF), role functioning, caused by emotional state (RE) and psychological health (Mental Health – MH). Statistical analysis of data was carried out using the “Statistica 7.0” software. Monitoring of scores of the psychological component of health based on the results of the analysis of the SF-36 questionnaire in the master’s level applicants in the specialty “Nursing” did not show probable changes in different age groups. When analyzing the psychological component of the health of master’s degree holders in the specialty “Nursing”, depending on the length of work, the values of MCS (by 15.82 %), VT (by 21.14 %), SF was found to be probably higher in non-working students (by 32.21 %) and MH (by 16.46 %), about the studied data for students with up to 5 years of work experience. In students with excellent academic performance, MCS, VT, SF, and RE are likely to be higher than similar indicators in students with satisfactory academic performance by 29.57, 20.00, 47.61 and 99.98 %, respectively. The evaluation of the psychological component of health based on the results of the analysis of the SF-36 questionnaire in the master’s level applicants in the specialty “Nursing” did not show a probable increase in the percentage of students with a low quality of life (<50 points) with an increase in their age, work experience, and academic success.
