MENTORING AS A WAY OF NURSE ADAPTATION IN A NEW WORKPLACE

Mentoring programs are used in nursing practice as an integral part of the curriculum. A mentor is a professional with significant experience and knowledge who takes responsibility for guiding, advising, training, and assisting others in learning competencies, improving their professional experience, and fostering leadership. This is quite characteristic in the context of studentship. Actual clinical nursing settings are complex and variable, making them very interesting candidates for improvement in the clinical context.
The aim of the study – to conduct an analysis of scientific data related to models of mentoring in nursing and adaptation of a nurse in the workplace.
The main part. The study is analyzed scientific publications of the last decade, as well as highly cited publications available on the Internet, keywords were: «mentoring», «mentoring models», «nurse adaptation». There are different forms and models of mentoring in nursing. However, it is worth noting that for the most successful development of mentoring programs, it is necessary to take into account not only the «mentor- protégé» model, but to expand the contingent, in which one of the important places should be occupied by management, because it is the motivational component - praise and financial support - that have the most effective effect on the development of the employee in professional activities. Several initiatives need to be taken to improve the mentoring program, such as the need for training and support, adequate workload distribution, rewards and benefits, and the ongoing need to evaluate the mentoring program to ensure and maintain its success. Mentor qualities are divided into personal, social and professional. Successful mentoring requires interpersonal skills as well as creating a conducive environment for academic medicine.
Conclusions. The obtained results indicate the need to expand the concept of mentoring in the work of a young nurse with the involvement of not only the attached mentor, but also the joint work of the department’s staff for faster adaptation and a sense of satisfaction from work.
