Abstract

The study involved 83 patients with DPUD, which were divided into 3 groups – group I consisted of 40 patients with DPUD complicated by bleeding, group II included 17 patients with DPUD complicated by ulcer perforation, group III was formed by 26 patients with exacerbation of DPUD. Using Schiller-Pisarev probe, gum inflammation was diagnosed in 100 % of groups I and II. In group III, inflammation was stated in 82.6 % of patients, being significantly less frequent in comparison to group I (p<0.05). Papillary-marginal-alveolar index was >51 % (severe gingivitis) in 89.2 % of patients of group I. In groups II and III, it was diagnosed in 77.4 % and 68.3 % of cases, respectively. Moderate gingivitis (25–50 %) was present in all groups, however mild gingivitis (<25 %) was found only in 42 % of patients in group III. The initial degree of periodontitis, according to PI of A.L. Russel, was seen only in groups II and III. Periodontitis of level I was stated significantly more often in group III compared to group I (p<0.05). Periodontitis of level III in group I significantly exceeded its frequency in group III (p<0.05). In group I, patients with increased peroxide hemolysis of erythrocytes had substantially prevailed (p<0.05). In group III, the number of cases with its normal value was significantly higher (p<0.05). The number of patients with increased peroxide hemolysis of erythrocytes in group I significantly exceeded the respective parameter in group III (p<0.05). Thus, patients with DPUD complicated by bleeding, inhere periodontitis of level III and severe gingivitis. Severe periodontal tissue lesions in patients with complications of DPUD is accompanied by a significant enhancement of lipid peroxidation, in particular peroxide hemolysis of erythrocytes.
