Abstract

Periodontal disease among children is a significant medical and social problem. The multifactorial nature of these diseases necessitates a con- stant search for the causes and consequences of the development of pathology and ways to correct them. The aim of this study was to develop a regionally adapted method for the prevention of periodontal disease in children aged 12–15 years. Materials and Methods. We examined and observed 60 children aged 12–15 living in the city of Chernivtsi. Of these, 30 children received the standard preventive treatment for periodontal tissue diseases for children of this age, and 30 received a proposed complex of therapeutic and preventive measures, which included professional oral hygiene at the local level, the use of the drug “BioGaia ProDentis” and general correction with the vitamin and mineral preparation “AlfaVit”. Results. Overall, the therapeutic and preventive measures we proposed over two years significantly increased the number of healthy sextants in adolescents: the indicator rose from 2.05 ± 0.11 to 4.34 ± 0.27 (p < 0.05). At the same time, in adolescents in the control group, the number of intact periodontal tissues did not change significantly after two years, remaining at 1.25 ± 0.12 (initial) and 2.18 ± 0.15 (final) sextants. Conclusion. The introduction of metabolic correction and probiotics into the complex of therapeutic and preventive measures for periodontal tissue diseases in children significantly improves the results of prevention and once again confirms the important role of metabolic disorders in the development of the inflammatory process in the gums.
