Abstract

The authors described a special kind of foreign bodies in the gastrointestinal tract in children - batteries that cause severe complications as a result of its electrochemical action. Among 15 observations in 11 (89.0 %) children developed complications on the part of the gastrointestinal tract. Two children were subjected to surgical treatment. The issues of diagnostics and medical tactic in cases where the children swallowed cadmium or lithium batteries were reviewed.
