Abstract

SUMMARY. The aim – to analyze and compare existing methods for assessing activity and participation of individuals with spinal cord injury in order to identify the most effective tools that can be integrated into clinical practice.

Material and Methods. A systematic analysis of publications from the PubMed database (US National Library of Medicine) was conducted with a comparison and synthesis of the main results.

Results. Modern questionnaires as tools for assessing the quality and activity of daily life related to health (QoL), provide valuable information about the physical, psychological and social functioning of patients. This, in turn, allows for an objective assessment of the effectiveness of certain medical and rehabilitation interventions, which is especially important within the framework of an interdisciplinary approach to the management of chronic conditions. There are two main types of such questionnaires - general (universal) and specific. General questionnaires are designed to assess a wide range of parameters common to various diseases and conditions. They allow to identify limitations in daily activities, degree of pain, emotional state, level of social integration, etc. In addition, with the help of general questionnaires, it is possible to compare the quality of life of patients with different pathologies or with a healthy population, which makes them a universal tool in clinical and epidemiological studies. Specific questionnaires, on the other hand, are designed to assess QoL in individual diseases or among certain groups of patients, and are able to more accurately detect changes that reflect the impact of a specific condition on a person’s daily life.

Conclusions. Data that could serve as the basis for evaluating or predicting the expected outcome of an intervention, namely occupational therapy and physical therapy, are not covered in the analyzed sources. The vast majority of recommendations place little emphasis on the use of examination methods and indicators as prognostic criteria for the current and long-term effect of rehabilitation. At the same time, the research methods presented in clinical guidelines can be integrated into the practice of physical therapists. At the same time, there is a need to determine the significance of each of these indicators in the rehabilitation process.
