SUMMARY. This study presents the results of original research on anxiety, depression, and aggression among junior and mid-level medical staff engaged in shift work.
The aim – to examine the impact of sleep disorders on anxiety and depression in shift-working nurses.
Material and Methods. A total of 120 shift-working nurses were surveyed using the following questionnaires: Beck’s Anxiety and Depression Scale, A. Assinger’s method for assessing aggression in relationships, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index.
Results. Sleep problems affect concentration, reduce cognitive functions, memory, and the ability to make quick decisions, which may further increase psychological stress and the risk of errors at work. Increased anxiety can manifest as behavioral aggression towards both patients and colleagues. Chronic sleep deprivation may contribute to the development of burnout syndrome, characterized by exhaustion, decreased motivation, and loss of interest in professional activities.
Conclusions. The psycho-emotional state of nurses is a crucial factor directly influencing their ability to manage stress and perform professional duties effectively. Providing appropriate rest conditions and implementing measures to improve sleep quality can serve as important tools for supporting the psychological well-being of junior medical staff.
