Abstract

SUMMARY. An important place in the training of specialists in general practice-family medicine is taken by content on medical errors in general medical practice.

The aim – to study the peculiarities of the state of the problem of medical error in the training of specialists in general practice-family medicine.

Materials and Methods. The evidentiary content regarding medical error in the teaching of the discipline "General practice-family medicine" was analyzed.

Results. The frequency of diagnostic errors in general practice, or situations where a clinician has all the information necessary to make a diagnosis but still makes an incorrect diagnosis, is 15%. Diagnostic errors in the field of family medicine are associated with a large workload and flow of patients. Diagnostic errors are more common than other types of errors, but most of them are thought to be preventable. Research identifies three main causes: gaps in knowledge, misinterpretation of diagnostic test results, and cognitive distortions.

Conclusions. Several strategies for avoiding medical errors have been developed. The most known are the following: history and physical examination; list of problems and differential diagnosis; mnemonics and checklists; red flags and worst-case scenario exclusion strategy; targeted training of clinical thinking and the human factor.
