Abstract

SUMMARY. A primary psychotic episode (PPE) is one of the links in the dynamic course of a psychotic disorder.

The aim – to investigate the socio-psychological features of patients with PPE and their relationship with recovery rates after treatment.

Material and Methods. 177 patients with PPE from three research groups were examined (F20 – 53 people; F23 – 96 people and F25 – 28 people).

Clinical-psychopathological, clinical-catamnestic, psychodiagnostic and statistical methods were used. The PANSS scale, the method of diagnosing the level of social frustration, the medication compliance assessment scale and the questionnaire of cognitive regulation of emotions were used as instruments. The socio-psychological characteristics of patients, the reduction of psychopathological symptoms as a result of inpatient treatment, and the dynamics of the disease in the long term were analyzed and studied.

Results. The socio-psychological characteristics of the examined were analyzed and described, and their relationship with the indicators of recovery based on the results of treatment was established. It was determined that the positive dynamics in PPE is associated with the presence of frustration with one's physical and emotional state, patient compliance and attitude to medication, as well as the presence of the "focus on planning" strategy in the cognitive structure of emotion regulation. The negative dynamics of the patients' condition is determined by the presence of frustration with their social environment and socio-economic situation, as well as an obsessive type of thinking (rumination).

Conclusions. Socio-psychological factors play a significant role in the dynamics of the condition and recovery of patients with PPE and should be considered as targets when developing treatment programs.
