Abstract

SUMMARY. The aim – to study the main syndromic characteristics of children’s traumatism. Describe in detail previously little-known patterns of mutilations in children – syndrome of traumatological divergence, syndrome of traumatological triad, portrait of a child vulnerable to trauma. Knowledge of these syndromes will help in the practical activities of medical and social workers to significantly reduce the frequency of injuries in children.

To realize this goal, the following tasks were set: to investigate the main seasonal pattern of injuries; to investigate the basic pattern of damage to the child’s topographic-anatomical zones; give a general description of a child prone to injuries; to develop the main areas of prevention of children’s injuries.

Material and Methods. Monthly monitoring of child injury rates during 2020 in absolute numbers was carried out. Cases of injuries in children who were treated in the regional children’s trauma center were analyzed. 7434 children were examined. Injuries were combined into general groups – fractures of the upper and lower limbs, sprains, blunt injuries, sprained joints, wounds of the head, upper and lower limbs. The frequency of damage to each topographic and anatomical area of children was studied – head, limbs, pelvic bones, spine.

Injuries that had a common cause were separated into groups of injuries – domestic, street, school, sports, road accidents.

The mathematical dependence of injury indicators was studied in relation to children’s age, gender, season, and the surrounding environment. The obtained indicators were displayed in absolute numbers in percentages. Graphs and tables were used for a more visual demonstration of these patterns.

Results and Conclusions. More than 90 % of the cases of trauma occur on the street – 5873 (79.9 %), at home – 398 (19.0 %). Characteristic seasonal dynamics of domestic and street traumatism – syndrome of traumatological divergence – was revealed. The maximum rates of injury occur in the three summer months – the syndrome of the traumatological triad. Extremity fractures predominated. The main character traits of trauma-prone children have been revealed – a portrait of a trauma-vulnerable child.
