The analysis of the periodontal status of schoolchildren in the town of Stryi shows a low level of oral hygiene, which in turn affects the development of periodontal tissue diseases.
The aim of the study – to analyze the results of dental examination and to determine the main etiological factors of the development of periodontal tissue disease among high school students of the school number 1 and number 2 of the town of Stryi, Lviv region.
Materials and Methods. The study involved 114 pupils aged 15–17 years, among them 63 boys and 51 girls (64 % and 36 %). The state of the periodontal tissues of adolescents was determined using the SRI index, the hygienic index of the oral cavity – using the Green-Vermillion Index (I.G. Green, I.R. Vermillion, 1964), and the condition of the bone tissue of the alveolar appendix was analyzed on the basis of orthopantomography.
Results and Discussion. The result of our research, we found that the average oral hygiene index of OHI-S Green-Vermillion in the surveyed was within the range of 0.7–1.60 units (46 %), which indicates a satisfactory state hygiene, while in 14 % of the surveyed, this figure was 1.8 units, which corresponds to the indicator of "bad" oral hygiene. Teenagers with "very bad" hygiene were only 4 %, while with "good" hygiene was 36 %.
Conclusions. According to the results of the conducted research it can be concluded that adolescents of this age have a high level of periodontal tissue diseases caused by the low level of individual oral hygiene, the presence of carious cavities on the contact surfaces of molars, poor quality restorations, and the accumulation of teeth in the frontal and lateral areas of the jaws.
