The article presents the results of clinical examination of periodontal tissues in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The aim of the study – to investigate the peculiarities of the course of periodontal tissue diseases according to index parameters in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Materials and Methods. A clinical examination was conducted on 93 people who were examined on the basis of the Endocrinology Department of the Clinical Hospital in the Lviv region. The patients were divided into four groups, among them group 1 was 31 patients with type 2 diabetes; group 2 – 19 people with inflammatory signs of periodontal disease with normal blood sugar; group 3 – 23 persons with changes in periodontal tissues on the background of type 2 diabetes and the group 4 – control. The condition of periodontal tissues by subjective and objective criteria (clinical indexes, index score) was evaluated.
Results and Discussion. As a result of our research, we found that in patients with type 2 diabetes, the prevalence of inflammatory signs in periodontal tissues was (71.78 ± 3.53) %, which was 1.3 times more than in those examined without concomitant diseases (54.83 ± 5.16) %. In an objective examination, changes in the shape of the gingival margin, the bleeding of the gums, and the presence of over- and oblique tartar were more commonly observed in patients with acute periodontitis on the background of type 2 diabetes.
Conclusions. The obtained results indicate a complicated course of pathology of periodontal tissue diseases on the background of
type 2 diabetes mellitus.
