Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • If you are sending your manuscript by post (Journal «Вісник наукових досліджень. Bulletin of Scientific research» Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University,  Maydan Voli, 1, Ternopil, 46001):

    • letter of the chief on the letterhead of the institution or letter of the chief vised with the round seal of the institution.
    • the expert inference, that authorizes the open publication
    • printed copy of an article marked "for publication" on the title page should be submitted to editorial, signed by all the authors. By their signatures the authors guarantee that experimental and clinical researchers have been executed according to the International ethical norms of scientific researchers, and also they give the publisher a right for publication of the article in the Journal, placing it and its materials on the Journal’s site and in other sources. If used in the article materials are the intellectual property of some organizations and have not been published before, an author should get permission for their publication from each of these organizations and send it together with the article.
    • a CD with an electronic version of the article, abstracts, and illustrations in separate files. File names must contain only Latin symbols and numbers without spaces, periods, commas or brackets.
    1. File with the text of an article (author_art.doc, where “author” is the last name of author for correspondence).
    2. Separate files with each figure (author_figl.jpeg or author_figl.tiff).

    The publication of materials in the journal requires payment. Payment is made after positive review of articles and approval of them to printing, about which the authors have informed additionally.

Author Guidelines

Вісник наукових досліджень. Bulletin of Scientific Research welcomes original articles which demonstrate strong evidence of clinical applicability, are scientifically robust and highly appropriate for general medical readership.

Languages of articles could be Ukrainian, Russian or English.

Types of articles:

review articles and lectures;

original experimental and clinical studies; 

case reports;

modern technologies and achievements of diagnosis and treatment;

experience exchange.

Preferred formats for the text and tables of your manuscript are Word DOC and RTF. The text should be one and a half spaced throughout and with a 2cm for left-hand margin, at head and foot; and 1cm for right-hand margin (28-30 lines per one sheet). Text should be standard Times new Roman 14 point. The volume of original articles, including tables, figures, references, summary, and keywords should not exceed 10 pages; review articles and lectures – up to 18 pages, short report, and reviews – 3–5 pages.

 Artwork guidelines

Illustrations, pictures, and graphs, should be supplied with the highest quality and in an electronic format that helps us to publish your article in the best way possible. Please follow the guidelines below to enable us to prepare your artwork for the printed issue as well as the online version.

  • Format: TIFF, JPEG: Common format for pictures (containing no text or graphs). 
    EPS: Preferred format for graphs and line art (retains quality when enlarging/zooming in).
  • Placement: Figures/charts and tables created in MS Word should be included in the main text rather than at the end of the document.
    Figures and other files created outside Word (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, JPG, TIFF, EPS, and PDF) should be submitted separately. Please add a placeholder note in the running text (i.e. “[insert Figure 1.]")
  • Resolution: Rasterized based files (i.e. with .tiff or .jpeg extension) require a resolution of at least 300 dpi (dots per inch). Line art should be supplied with a minimum resolution of 800 dpi.
  • Colour: Please note that images supplied in color will be published in color online and black and white in print (unless otherwise arranged). Therefore, it is important that you supply images that are comprehensible in black and white as well (i.e. by using color with a distinctive pattern or dotted lines). The captions should reflect this by not using words indicating color.
  • Dimension: Check that the artworks supplied match or exceed the dimensions of the journal. Images cannot be scaled up after origination.
  • Fonts: The lettering used in the artwork should not vary too much in size and type (usually Times new Roman as a default).

Equations should be submitted using Microsoft Equation.

Structure of article

The text should be divided into Introduction, Patients & Methods/Materials & Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, and References.

– UDK index;

– name and initials of the authors in Ukrainian, English, and Russian;

– The title, without any abbreviations (except generally accepted) in Ukrainian, English, and Russian;

– author’s affiliation  in Ukrainian, English, and Russian (different affiliations are indicated by numbers 1, 2, 3);

three structured summaries 250-300 words each (1800-2100 characters with spaces) in Ukrainian, English, and Russian, which should include the following elements: the aim of the work, materials and methods, results and discussion;

keywords (3 up to 7 words) in Ukrainian, English, and Russian;

Introduction (problem definition and analysis of recent research and publications problem definition and its relationship with important scientific and practical tasks; analysis of recent research and publications for the solution of this problem on which the author refers to; allocation of unsolved earlier parts of the problem, which the article is devoted to).

- The aim of the work;

- Materials and Methods – the principle of selection and quantitative characterization of material for research and the distribution of objects on groups; description of applied methods of experimental, pathomorphological, clinical research and methods of statistical analysis;

You should indicate adherence to bioethical principles.

- Results and Discussion – the main material studies with full justification of scientific results; results should not repeat previously published data, reference to previous publications of the author is recommended); medical terms are given according to anatomical, histological nomenclature, and ICD-10, physical quantities, and units – in The International System of Units (SI), abbreviations of words and word combinations are given according to DSTU 3582-97 and GOST 7.12-93.; description of the results is accompanied by tables, diagrams, graphs, and microphotographs; in the discussion obtained results are compared with similar and different results of other authors, the possible causes of results discrepancy are explained.

Conclusions (they are given in numbered paragraphs; they follow from the results of the executed research and solve the aim of the research).

- Conclusions – should be given in form of numbered items arising from the results of the studies and solve the purpose of the work;

- Prospects of further studies are given if needed, in the last paragraph of the article in a size up to three sentences.

- References (in two variants).

Formatting your references.

  1. The references must contain the list of works for the last 5 years and only sometimes — more early publications. In the original works no more than 10 sources are quoted, in the reviews — up to 30. Every work in the literature list should be referred in the manuscript. The literature in the list is ordered according to reference to it in the text of the article, which is given in the square brackets, or after the alphabet.
  2. The list is given in two variants. The first copy is designed according to DSTU GOST 7.1:2006, which is used in dissertational works.
  3. The other one is for the analysis of articles in international scientometrical databases, it fully duplicates the first one, but is transliterated by Latin alphabet (for Ukrainian and Russian sources) using APA references Style (American Psychological Association 6th edition- http://www.citethisforme.com/guides/apa). When formatting your references, here is a quick link to the APA reference style.
  4. In the references in the Latin alphabet, it is necessary to indicate all the authors of the literary source, which you refer to (DSTU GOST 7.1:2006 does not provide it). Also one should not use the signs of division: // and -. The name of the source (Journal, conference, book) is always indicated by italic

For articles: The last names of authors and title of the Journal are given in the transliteration by the Latin alphabet, title of the article — in English.

Information about authors and address for correspondence. In the end of the article information about the authors is attached in the Ukrainian, Russian and in English (in paper copy – on a separate page): the last name, name and patronymic (in a full form), academic title, academic degree, place of work, occupation, address for correspondence, phone number, e-mail address.

Privacy Statement

Вісник наукових досліджень. Bulletin of Scientific Research is an open access, peer-reviewed journal. Each article accepted by peer review is made freely available online immediately upon publication, is published under a Creative Commons license, and will be hosted online in perpetuity, in addition to in a print version. Publication costs of the journal are covered by the collection of page charges, which are paid by the author of each manuscript upon acceptance. Every article receives a detailed technical edit by specialist editors after peer review and ahead of publication.
