Abstract

Purpose: calculation of the cost for the medical service delivered to the surgical patients with percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

Materials and Methods. The research was performed on the basis of the official budget of the Urology Unit atLvivRegionalClinicalHospital. The calculation was carried out by the adapted formula according to the “Unique generalized calculation method for the cost of the medical service and weight coefficient in U-DRG at health care institutions”.

Results. The expense of the treatment for patients with one-stage percutaneous nephrolithotomy at the Urology Unit in the Western region accounts for 13673.40 UAH, the cost of a two-stage nephrolithotomy is 26668.60 UAH. In addition, the indirect expenses connected with the patient treatment during the whole admitting period constitute 1907.15 UAH. The most expensive services include the carriage of the facilities, equipment and tools (4985 UAH).

Conclusions. One-stage nephrolithotomy is both less traumatic for the patient and more financially favourable for the country as the total expenses for its performance are generally lower in 1.95 times compared to the two-stage nephrolithotomy.
