Abstract

Purpose: the purpose of our research is to identify changes in autonomic balance in depressed patients among the civilian population and military personnel with depressive disorders.

Materials and Methods. The examination program included a clinical and psychological study (clinical interview, psychological interview, collection of psychological anamnesis). The degree of mental and psychotic disorders was assessed using the Hospital Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) and the DASS-21 Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale. The main spectrum of disorders included depressive disorders without psychotic inclusions with a depressive syndrome of varying degrees of severity. The type of autonomic regulation disorders was established on the basis of cardiointervalography.

Results. As the body of the civilian population is involved in psycho-emotional stress, there is a gradual but steady involvement of the central mechanisms of heart rhythm regulation and establishment of their superiority over autonomous ones. Indicators indicate such a level of harmful effects of stress-realizing systems that can cause functional disorders.

The lack of centralization of control of autonomic regulation and activation of the sympathetic link of the autonomic nervous system is characteristic of military personnel. In this category of patients, the adaptive mechanisms is not associated with emergency reactions.

Conclusions. In most patients suffering from mental disorders of the depressive spectrum, there is a change in the activity of the autonomic system, which under certain conditions can reach the level of imbalance, creating prerequisites for threatening disasters. In military personnel, adaptive mechanisms have demonstrated more constructive and less exhausting ways of adaptation. In this category of subjects, the level of vegetative imbalance practically does not reach the debilitating level.
