Abstract

Purpose: to investigate the main problems of the influence of gadgets on the health of children and adolescents.

Materials and Methods. The research involved 80 middle and high school students (11–17 years old, 43 girls and 37 boys) of the Kamiankiv secondary school I–III grades of the Ternopil district of the Ternopil region.

Results. As a result of the study, it was established that 40 % of children and adolescents do not control the time spent with the phone, 92.5 % of schoolchildren use gadgets every day. The vast majority of students use various gadgets to use social networks and to communicate with friends via mobile communication and the Internet. Much less often, gadgets are used for reading e-books and studying.

From our survey, it is clear that almost half of students often like to play computer games (47.5 %), while almost 24 % of children and adolescents answered that they almost never play computer games. 50 % of children and teenagers answered that their parents do not forbid them to play computer games, which of course cannot help but be sad. The fact that a large number of surveyed students answered that they often put off homework in order to play on the computer or phone (55 %) also testifies to some gadget addiction.

We also found out that 30 % of children and teenagers often get tired by playing on the phone or computer for too long, 37.5 % get tired often, but almost 24 % of children said that they never get tired.

Conclusions. As a result of the research, we found that a large percentage of students do not control the time they spend on the phone. More than 90 % of children and teenagers use gadgets every day, which was completely expected. Children and teenagers like to use social networks the most, but very few students use gadgets for learning. Almost half of experienced students play computer games. Another negative conclusion we received as a result of the survey was that 63 % of parents never forbid their children to play computer games.
