Purpose: to perform systematization and improve educational and practical aspects in internships in the specialty of Psychiatry.
Materials and Methods. Using bibliosemantic method and method of system analysis we investigated the legal framework for postgraduate training of specialists in internships in the specialty of Psychiatry.
Results. The article highlights modern approaches to the training of interns in Psychiatry. The Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University is actively refining the training of future psychiatrists to implement the concept of “lifelong learning”, that is, ensuring the continuity of the educational process.
Traditionally, the main goal of training is to improve the professional skills in the main sections of Psychiatry, to learn the clinic and the diagnostic of mental disorders, their methods of treatment, rehabilitation and prevention.
Performing of training courses is achieved through their practical medical activities under the direction of the intern instructors in specialized departments, with the introduction of the Swiss experience in psychiatric care for patients with mental disorders. Much attention is paid to the motivation of interns, since it correlates with the self-esteem and level of personality claims, identifies the potential capabilities of the individual, the activity or passivity of the subject in professional activities, determines the professional development of the specialist.
Interns at the Department of Psychiatry have traditionally been admitted to receive an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE), which positively affects the level of clinical knowledge of interns.
Conclusion. Such areas of improvement of postgraduate education change the paradigm of the attitude towards mentally ill, their status in society, and promote tolerance and patience.
