Introduction. Degenerative-dystrophic lesions of the spine, in particular intervertebral hernias, are among the most common pathologies of the musculoskeletal system and are a significant cause of temporary and permanent disability among people of working age. The spread of physical inactivity, prolonged work in conditions of static load, biomechanical posture disorders, and inadequate physical activity contribute to the formation of structural and functional changes in the intervertebral discs and surrounding tissues. Due to the growing number of patients with clinical manifestations of intervertebral hernias, it is particularly important to improve physical therapy programs aimed at restoring functional independence, reducing pain, and improving quality of life.
The aim of the study – to evaluate the effectiveness of physical therapy programs in patients with intervertebral hernias of the lumbar spine.
The main part. The study was conducted at the Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (Ternopil). Twenty women aged 25–45 with clinically and instrumentally confirmed hernias of the lumbar spine accompanied by pain syndrome participated in the study. The participants were randomized into two groups: control (n=10) and experimental (n=10). The duration of the study was 6 months. Patients in the control group received a standard course of rehabilitation, which included kinesitherapy, therapeutic physical culture, and massage. The experimental group underwent a comprehensive program developed by the authors, which included: daily dosed health walks (an average of 10,000 steps per day) with monitoring of correct technique and posture; performance of specially designed sets of therapeutic exercises; use of kinesio taping; optimization of sleep hygiene.
Conclusions. The author’s program of comprehensive physical therapy, which included kinesio taping, daily dosed health walking, individually selected therapeutic exercises, and sleep hygiene correction, demonstrated practical feasibility and clinical relevance in patients with intervertebral hernias of the lumbar spine.
