Introduction. The work of a nurse in an infectious diseases unit is a teamwork of professionals. Therefore, the knowledge and skills, qualifications, practical professional skills of the staff are the key to an objective assessment of the health status of patients, and, if necessary, determine further actions of medical personnel and timely diagnosis of pathology. The practical ability to determine objective parameters of life is the key to providing the necessary assistance not only in case of emergencies in pediatrics, but also in everyday work.
The aim of the study – to improve the knowledge of nursing staff on the correct assessment of vital functions, to interpret the main indicators of life parameters, using routine methods of research: pulse and its characteristics such as frequency, rhythm, strength, uniformity, respiratory rate, blood pressure.
The main part. One of the most important systems is the cardiovascular system. The article analyzes the parameters of the cardiovascular system and presents the main age-related features that should be taken into account when interpreting the indicators. The age-related features of the cardiovascular system are relevant primarily because the circulatory system is constantly changing at different ages, both anatomically and functionally. The following parameters are important: pulse (heart rate (HR) and its characteristics, blood pressure measurement, pulse oximetry assessment, pulse dopplerography. Routine methods of diagnosing abnormalities in the cardiovascular system are analyzed. The technique of measuring blood pressure, pulse, and indications for pulse Doppler are indicated. The norms of the main indicators of the cardiovascular system depending on age are given.
Conclusions. Successful health care depends on the qualifications of nurses as part of the teamwork of the departments, their professional skills and functional responsibilities. For timely professional assistance, a nurse should have high quality skills in assessing the pulse (heart rate) with its main characteristics, blood pressure, respiratory rate in children of different ages.
