Introduction. Nurses play an important role in raising a healthy generation of children. To do this, they must have the necessary knowledge and skills, as well as constantly improve their professional level. This will allow them to be competent and quickly adapt to new realities. It is important how a child perceives visits to a nurse, and this will shape how he or she will take care of his or her health in the future. We also need to make sure that children are not afraid of doctors and take care of their health from a very young age.
The aim of the study – to highlight the activities of nurses in schools as an important component in the process of preventive, health-preserving, educational and training activities.
The main part. A child at school needs to be cared for, not only by the teacher. And a school nurse can be that person who can unite efforts around pupil and do something for the pupil. The duties of a healthcare worker working in an educational institution and being a member of the staff of an educational institution are determined by the Procedure for the provision of medical care to students of general secondary education institutions, approved by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of January 20, 2021, No. 31, according to which a healthcare worker, in particular, conducts anthropometry, thermometry, assessment of the general state of development of students; conducts periodic examinations for pediculosis, in accordance with the requirements established by the Ministry of Health; isolates students who have signs of an infectious disease with immediate notification of their parents or other legal representatives; provides medical care to students in emergency condition, calls an emergency (ambulance) team; participates in the organization of meals for students at the educational institution; conducts educational activities on prevention of tobacco and alcohol use, infectious diseases.
Conclusions. Ensuring the healthy development of children and fostering a responsible attitude towards health is a complex process that should involve nurses, parents and the entire school staff. Only through joint efforts can we create a healthy and safe environment for children’s development and raise them to be physically and mentally healthy, well-mannered and educated.
